Humane Education Says Goodby Spring, Hello Summer!

We’ve had another exciting session of Humane Education in conjunction with LA’s BEST afterschool enrichment program, bringing lessons of kindness, compassion, and responsible pet guardianship to students in grades K-5. Our three-part lesson series builds from lesson to lesson, engaging the kids in interactive exercises and culminating in an exercise where they make toys for shelter animals and have the opportunity to deliver the toys themselves. This term we reached 11 schools, teaching in 22 classrooms of kids who can carry these lessons forward, share them with their friends, and create a kinder, more responsible world for humans and animals alike.

Now we’re gearing up for LA’s BEST Summer Program, which has been a great opportunity to reach many more students and to diversify their experiences within the summer program as a whole. We recently attended LA’s BEST Summerland event at Dodger Stadium, where people come see what extracurricular lessons and activities are available through LA’s BEST. From this event we received more than THIRTY requests to visit new sites, especially from the West to East Valley. In order to accommodate these requests, though, we need more presenters! Could that be you?

This program is such an important part of our preventive mission, creating a better world by stopping problems before they start, and you can join us with a minimal time commitment of just one three-class series, and each class is just 50 minutes long. We train and provide all materials. If you enjoy being around kids and advocating, this is a super fun opportunity to get involved! Please email christy@barkavenuefoundation.org for more information.
