February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month and the month also hosts World Spay Day. Every cat or dog who is sterilized prevents dozens of unwanted pets.
To mark the occasion, Bark Avenue Foundation delivered a special World Spay Day event that sterilized 67 pets while vaccinating and feeding many more. Pets who were fixed at the event also received free dog or cat food, a collar, leash and a pet id tag.
The event kicked-off with a press conference featuring Dr. Salcito, LA County Chief Veterinarian as well as Downey Shelter Manager, Danny Ubario. These local leaders spoke to the community about the importance of spay/neuter, their important partnership with Bark Avenue Foundation, and what is in store for animals in LA County in 2015 and beyond.
Many thanks to our animal services partners — Riverside County Shelter Animal Care and Control mobile clinic, Valley Vet Non-Profit, and 1st Care Vets. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) Pets for Life program sponsored surgeries; Pet Food Express generously donated food and treats; and Superior Grocers hosted the community event at their East Cesar Chavez location. We were also honored to receive a donation of $1,000 from Superior Grocers!
