Whether you are staying home due to weather or because you are under the weather—or helping combat the spread of others being under the weather—finding ways to keep your family entertained and educated can be tough. While our Humane Presenters can’t come to your house to teach in person, the following online resources can bring Humane Education directly into your home:
Pitty Pawfessors’ Lucky Dog Curriculum is exactly what Bark Avenue Foundation uses in its after school program with LA’s Best. Designed by Lisa Potiker and inspired by her rescue dog Lucky, this website provides lessons along with the stories of inspirational dogs to teach children compassion and empathy—a skill they can use with all living creatures, not just their pets.
TeachHeart.org is another Humane Education resource. TeachHeart’s Humane Education Program runs in New York City, Chicago, and Indianapolis, and teaches not only empathy and compassion, but extends their lessons to environmental preservation and social justice. Their extensive free library features lessons, videos, books lists, and even interactive games you and your child can play together.
As we navigate this new normal in living over the next few weeks, remember that while we have to remain at least six feet apart, we are still all in this together.
