Many of you are familiar with our Unsheltered People and Pets (UPP) program, which assists homeless and at-risk pet owners with vet care, supplies, boarding, and access to services and housing with their pets so that they can keep their families together and not have to surrender their beloved fur-family to a shelter. This serves two purposes: the direct aid to the person and pet(s) so their lives can remain together safely and healthily, and also pets in shelters whose best shot at getting out is a less-crowded shelter system.
In recognition of the goals of this program and BAF’s track record, we are thrilled that PetSmart Charities has awarded us a generous grant to provide these services:
- Monthly on-site clinic with vet tech (at homeless service providers) providing pet assessments, vaccinations, microchips, flea meds, and other care & treatment;
- Spay/Neuter – referring/scheduling appointments at our mobile spay/neuter clinics and/or partnering brick-and-mortar vet clinics;
- Medical care including emergency vetting;
- ESA (Emotional Support Animal) assessments;
- Pet Food & Supplies
The funding we have will cover assistance to approximately 100 pets. All clients accessing these services must be referred by one of our partnering human service organizations: PATH, LA Family Housing, Weingart, Journey Out, etc., to make this a comprehensive effort to assist both the people and their pets. Together, with caring and effort, we really can make a difference.
