Volunteer Spotlight

Bark Avenue Foundation

This month we would like to thank Christee Quesada, one of our all-star Humane Educators. Christee has been volunteering with Bark Avenue Foundation for nearly a year and is instrumental in spreading the messages of kindness, compassion, and responsible pet guardianship to LA’s BEST students who will now create a better future for animals!

Christee has worked in animal welfare for over 5 years and actively volunteered with various animal organizations before that. She has a dog named Lucy and two cats named Ben & Jerry. She loves punk rock music, dancing, and traveling.

In her own words, Christee volunteers with BAF’s Humane Education program “because I think the root of the problem surrounding animal abuse/neglect is lack of education. I want to reach people when they are young and hopefully spark something in them to make the world a kinder place for animals.”

When asked what her favorite thing about volunteering with BAF is, Christee says, “Some of the kids are so funny and sweet. I love when they come up to me after class and start telling me all about the animals in their lives. It makes me feel good knowing I am teaching them how to be kind(er) to animals. I hope they grow up to be advocates for the animals.”

Christee works tirelessly in animal welfare, only having one day off per week, and we are honored she spends part of this day giving her time as a BAF presenter.  Here is just one of the many heart-warming stories shared by Christee:

“One girl in my class asked me for a spay/neuter certificate to give to her mom. When her mom came to pick her up, I watched her run up to her with the certificate and tell her all about what she learned that day. The mom came up to me and started talking to me and told me she was happy I was there and that she would use the certificate that week for her dog. That was the first time I could see in real life, the impact I was making.”

Thank you, Christee, for being an advocate for animals, for working enthusiastically to create a better future and educate a new generation of pet parents and advocates, and for setting an example of service and generosity for others who may be considering volunteering as well.

If you would like more information on volunteering as a Humane Education presenter, we would love to talk to you! We provide training and all materials. It’s a limited time commitment and a very rewarding experience. Please email christy@barkavenuefoundation.org for more info.
